Sep 01, New Delhi:
India's Supreme Court has ordered the closure of FIRs registered across the country over student protests linked to the NEET paper leak issue between July 20 and 25.
The court said the cases should not be pursued or investigated, keeping in mind the future of students who had bona fide participated in the protests.
The order quashes FIRs cited by the Centre and several states, and bars states and Union Territories from registering fresh cases over protest incidents during the period.
However, Delhi Police can pursue one FIR against 2,873 Jantar Mantar protesters with serious criminal antecedents.
The court invoked its special powers under Article 142, while the Centre told the court that a policy for compensation to families of students who died by suicide following the cancellation of NEET-UG 2026 will be formulated within three months.
