Workshop on voice culture underway in Akashvani Kohima.

A two-day workshop on Voice Culture and  Articulation jointly organised by National Academy of Broadcasting and Multimedia (NABM) Delhi, the apex training institution of Prasar Bharati, and Akashvani Kohima got underway today.

The workshop aims to strengthen presentation skills, diction, and the effective use of intonation among dialect presenters, radio jockeys and news readers.

Head of Office, Akashvani Kohima, K.K. Rengma, inaugurated the workshop, while ADG Training, Prasar Bharati, Rehan Ahmad Warsi, and DDG and Head of Office, NABM, Sunil Bhatia, joined the inaugural session virtually.

Speaking at the programme, NABM Programme Executive Dr. D.K. Mazumder stressed the need to preserve the purity and authenticity of dialects.

He said dialects carry the history, culture and identity of communities, making dialect announcers important custodians of linguistic and cultural heritage.

Mr Mazumder emphasised diction, articulation and intonation as key elements of effective broadcasting, and urged announcers to use clear pronunciation, authentic expressions and appropriate modulation.

Head of Programme, Akashvani Kohima, Ella Kayina, said a similar workshop was held at Akashvani Kohima in 2001, in collaboration with NABM, then known as the Regional Training Institute.

She said the workshop is particularly significant for Akashvani Kohima, which broadcasts the highest number of dialect programmes among stations in the country.
