OpenAI unveiled a new mid-range artificial intelligence agent day after shelving an upgraded version, GPT-6.1 Astra, over saftey concerns.

The low-cost model is launched at one-fifth the cost of its flagship offering. GPT-6.1 Sol ranks below OpenAI's most powerful model, GPT-6 Astra, released in early September.
OpenAI also announced Dots, an always-on personal agent designed to compete with Meta's Muse, unveiled last week. The company said on September 28 that it had scrapped the release of GPT-6.1 Astra because the model frequently ignored instructions.
